The company started in 1820 when Richard Atkinsons, then mayor of Dublin, asked some weavers to manufacture popeline for him. He quickly became official supplier of Her Imperial Majesty the Queen-Empress Victoria. Atkinsons manufactures most of his ties with “the finest Irish Poplin”, made of 50% of the finest silk and 50% of Australian merinos wool.
